Fun in the Snow July 2015
heading home to Brisbane.
From Walcha, the magnificent Apsley Gorge is only 20 km east along the Oxley Highway. A stairway down into the gorge lets you get a great view of the waterfall. If you follow the Oxley Walk across the river, you can look down on a second waterfall almost as goods as the first. There are picnic tables, BBQ's, toilets, walking tracks, lookout platforms, an informative display and a camping ground. Bring your own water or get it from the river. http://www.nnsw.com.au/apsleyfalls/
NSW 50 - Wallangarra Historic Railway Station
The town was created to service a break-of-gauge between Queensland's narrow gauge Southern railway line of 3 ft 6 in (1,067 mm) and New South Wales's standard gauge Main North railway line of 4 ft 8 1⁄2 in (1,435 mm) when the two systems came together in 1888.[6] The railway was the only rail link between Queensland and New South Wales until a standard gauge track was completed in 1932, with the completion of the bridge at Grafton. From that time on, the Wallangarra station lessened in importance. All scheduled rail services stopped in 1997.[7] In 2003, after major refurbishment, the station was reopened as a museum. The railway line from Stanthorpe to Wallangarra has continued to be maintained and steam trains taking tourists to Wallangarra occasionally operate.

Wallangarra near Stanthorpe Wallangarra is one of the coldest towns in Queensland, due to its altitude and extreme southerly location in the state. Maximum temperatures rarely rise above 15 °C (59 °F) in winter or above 30 °C (86 °F) in summer. I have to say that it was so cold standing here taking these photographs and 2 days later it was snowing !
some people are very creative - found in the garden of the Walcha Royal Café - a very funky establishment. if you are ever in the area you should pop in and explore not only the 60's style café but their back yard as well. http://www.walchansw.com.au/business-directory/motels-hotels/boutique-hotel-accommodation-in-walcha.php

NSW 54 The Old St Andrews Anglican Church in Walcha
This church was built by Alexander Mitchell with construction being completed by August 1862. The black basalt was quarried on the present day property Linden Hill, which was earlier part of Oak Hill and earlier still, part of the old Walcha Run. It was originally named St Pauls Church but was later renamed St Andrews’. The present Anglican Church was built in 1963 while the Anglican Parish Hall was built in 1954.
NSW 46 Tenterfield Misty Morning
I was so lucky to be here at the exact right time to get the sun to shine though this old building at Tenterfield. I would love to know more about this old relic so if anyone has any information please get in contact :)
